Get more from your website for less

Posted: Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

I want to focus on a couple of topics that are about getting more from your website for less.

For all businesses, your website needs to convert visitors into customers. Read on about increasing conversions through user testing below.

Websites, despite the economic climate, are still driving business growth. Recent research shows that online sales continue to increase at a significant rate despite falling sales for many offline retailers. Could a very low cost web shop solution drive your profits?

Increasing conversions through user testing

So, you’ve created the best website you can think of, you have optimised your website for the search engines, you appear on the first page in Google and visitors are arriving at your website… But you are not generating new sales/enquiries, why?

  • Is your website easy to use, are the links intuitive?
  • Can users find what they are looking for quickly and easily?
  • Does your website flow smoothly and logically?
  • Is there too much industry jargon on your website that confuses your visitors?
  • Is your message being interpreted the way you intended or are your visitors getting frustrated and going elsewhere?

You think you have a great site, but how do you know? User testing – that’s how. User testing has until now been used only by large companies due to previously prohibitive costs. We are now able to provide this testing using representative customers at very affordable rates. You will be amazed how much you will learn about how people use (or can’t use) your website. All you do is provide a tester with a scenario, an objective and some questions. e.g.
Tester Profile: Male 40-60, UK resident, high income earner.
Website: www.abc.co.uk
Scenario: Pretend that you are looking for a nursing home for your elderly mother whom you cherish.
Task: Decide what your questions/requirements might be. Write them down and share them with us. Visit the above website and try to find answers to those questions. Did the website tell you what you needed to know? Would you ask if it didn’t? Would you be pleased to place your mother there subject to an inspection?

What does the testing tell you?
What you get back is both a report on the testers’ findings and a commentated video of the user(s) browsing your site (you watch as they move between pages) and they tell you what they are thinking throughout their visit.

This information is like gold dust and will allow you to improve your website and improve your conversions/sales/leads. As John Cole put it:
“Increased our conversion rate”
“More users. Happier users! That’s what user testing has allowed us to get. We’ve identified many usability problems with our site using this tool and have improved the overall site experience and increased our conversion rate.”

Online sales growth and low cost web shop solutions

New research carried out by Maginus suggests that 76% of retailers selling their products online showed an increase in sales in the last 12 months even when their offline sales were falling. 46% actually increased their online sales by 20% or more. Is it time you were selling online?

Low investment shop solution
Believe it or not, we have superb shop solutions starting from £20 per month (including hosting) with setup costs from £35, where you don’t have to worry about backups, software or upgrades (new shop features being added all the time)! Naturally web2market still work with clients on bespoke solutions, but this new solution using the very same software ensures that money is not a barrier to selling online. Whatever your business to business or business to consumer requirement, we can help. Contact me to discuss your needs and ideas and I will be pleased to provide a demonstration of the superb front (customer facing) and back end (administration).

As always, if you would like further information on any of the above, or have other web related queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Kind regards
