Social Media – part of your digital marketing strategy?

At first there was a huge buzz around Social Media and many businesses felt that they needed to engage for fear of missing out. But just by setting up a Facebook page or a Twitter account doesn’t mean that it will work for your business. Do you adopt or dismiss?

Social media can be highly valuable if it is relevant to your customers and an approach that they are receptive to, but other online marketing strategies can be just as effective, if not more so.

As marketers we need to find the digital marketing approaches that will benefit your business, rather than trying to engage in unnecessary marketing activities that won’t really bring a ROI.

Through thorough analysis of business objectives and customer behaviour, all forms of digital marketing should be explored. It may be that social media should not actually be included in your marketing mix at all. If you then identify that a social approach will benefit your business remember that it is not something you want to start and not continue.  It will need ongoing effort for the whole of its lifecycle.
